Pusher design |
|
Hello all!
I need help! I'm in my final year at university in Sheffield and am basing my dissertation on Octopush pushers. I'm looking at how to design one and also testing which can be done on them.
If you have any ideas or knowledge on designing a pusher then please let me know.
I am looking to create a pusher with an optimal flicking angle- has anyone ever found the perfect angle for flicking?
I'm also looking at reducing drag. Are there any special ways of doing this- introducing grooves or ridges perhaps, or giving some sides texture.
Also what benefit is there to having holes in the pushers, does this reduce drag and let the pushers glide through the water easier?
If you have any thoughts or ideas please post them up!!
Thank you,
Sioned

THis is the stick i use this year. As defender i use often the hook to take the puck from the opponent and want to shoot fast and far with my stick.
1:The front off the stick. The angle is by this stick 12%
2:Ridges on the playing end off the stick. This reduce the forward drag(the stick is more calm in the water then without those ridges it glide trough water much easyer). And it looks good on the stick.
3 An ridge between the first 2 fingers. Pure for more grip on the handle.
4.Lines on the handle, for more grip.
5. As you see on the last photo. A place to put your thump, Some players like it for shooting/flicking the puck.
6.The hook off the stick/pusher. This has the same round as a puck. This give a good grip on the puck. Our defenders like this very much. Also the hook is placed more to the handle because this give the possible for faster moving the puck when it is in the hook.
7.The angle in the hook. Most times 7% If its bigger the puck flys out the hook if moving to fast. If you dont have a hook most time it is the same angle as the front off the stick off a little bit less. Between 7% an 13%
8:Side way movement. THis is why the holes are in the stick. This reduce the drag.
commentary
This are the reasons why this stick looks like this. THe perfect stick for everybody will never exist. Some people want an hook. some dont. Without an hook you can do some movements that you cant with an hook, but with an hook you can do other things that you cant do without an hook. So it it also with the angle for flicking the puck. An perfect stick is personal. It is differt for every person. Some other things like lines for grip and ridges for less drag. That is easyer.(not as personal)
We always say. An stick is good as the person that use it find it an good stick. Thats also why we hope to find more models sticks and make them for other people. By every model we learn more about things for the sticks.
